The Bavarian born designer, artist and economist Kayser is currently analyzing Portugal and Spain for his doctoral thesis. Since many years Kayser argues that the Iberian peninsula should be one of the world’s wealthiest economies, instead both countries are impoverishing, over aging and deindustrializing fast. Yet, they could turn history around once again focusing on their enormous advantages: some of the world’s eldest universities, booming tourism, a much sought after real estate market, diligent and well trained work forces, cutting edge hospitals and plenty of rural space ready for production and investments. But instead, Portugal and Spain are trapped in EU policies and badly corrupted national governments.
